Al-Andalus is a historical region on the Iberian Peninsula that was controlled by Muslims during the Middle Ages. During this period, Al-Andalus was a major educational center in Europe and the lands around the Mediterranean, as well as a conduit for cultural and scientific exchange between the Islamic and Christian worlds.
