World Heritage List In western Kazakhstan, on the Mangyshlak Peninsula, there are several unique religious structures – mosques carved into limestone rocks or entirely built underground. They were created over nearly a thousand years, from the 10th century to the end of the 19th century. On July 25, 2026, the 5 most famous rock mosques and associated objects were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The last time an object from Kazakhstan was included in this list was in 2004.
