Kebir Cami is the oldest building of Akmescit (Simferopol). During 5 centuries of existence the structure has survived the fire, destruction, and numerous restorations. During the Soviet era, the mosque was closed for many years. And only in 1990s — after the mass return of Crimean Tatars to their homeland — the revival of the shrine started. Today Kebir-Jami is the spiritual center of Crimean Muslims and the main mosque of the peninsula.
