Bid’at — Innovations in Islam

In Islam, the category of «bid’at» includes all provisions and canons that were not established by the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), but appeared after His death. Usually the concept of «innovation» is used in a negative sense, but it is divided into two types: laudable (bid’at-ul-hasana) and blameworthy (bid’at-us-seyya).
