Korpe Village: Return and Revival

The history of Korpe (now Kalinovka) in Crimea’s Leninsky District embodies the tragedy and revival of the Crimean Tatar people. Founded during the Crimean Khanate, the village endured abandonment in the 19th century due to drought and mass emigration, the 1944 deportation, and decades of struggle for the right to return. It was here that some of the first rallies for the Crimean Tatars’ return to the peninsula took place, and many local Crimean Tatars managed to come back as early as the 1960s.
