How Kok-Agach became Mekenzievka

In Akyar (Sevastopol), low mountains stretch between the Belbek and Chorgun rivers, which are known as the Mekenzievs. They got their unusual name from the name of the Scotsman Thomas Mackenzie, who served in the Russian army and received a land plot in the area of these mountains. The historical name of the mountains is Kok-Agach-daglary. Kok-Agach is a hornbeam from Crimean Tatar (literally «gray-blue tree»).
