The Monument To Alima Abdenanova Was Erected Despite The Government Ban

In 1988, when the Crimean Tatars were just returning to Crimea and faced constant pressure at home, activists of the national movement erected a monument to the heroic scout Alime Abdenanova in the Leninsky district, without obtaining permission from the authorities. The stone was made using public funds and placed right next to the Kerch highway under the cover of darkness, in the light of headlights. The authorities had no choice but to legalize the installation and officially open the monument.
