Bekir Umerov stood at the origins of the Crimean Tatar national movement. Before the war, he worked as a teacher and held high party and economic leadership positions. And he always wanted to educate Crimean Tatar youth, to raise the cultural and intellectual level of the people. Bekir Umerov was imprisoned many times for his beliefs. Today, one of the streets in the Kamenka district is named after Bekir Umerov.
