Telengits are the Turkic-speaking people of Altai. Telengits are considered a sub-ethnos of the Altaians, although in the 2002 census they were singled out as separate people. It is believed that there are about 4 thousand Telengits, but they themselves estimate their number at no less than 15 thousand people.
