5 facts about Khotons

In the west of Mongolia, there is a small ethnic group — the Khotons. They are Turkic people. The Khoton language is poorly described and is currently considered potentially extinct, and the Khotons themselves speak the Durbet dialect of the Oirat language. Being surrounded by Buddhists and shamanists, the Khotons gradually lost most of the Islamic rituals, although the people keep the memory of their Turkic and Islamic origins.
