On September 14, 1969, 16-year-old Sadyk Berberov returned to Crimea with his family. He was among the first Crimean Tatars who managed to return to their Homeland. A promising agronomist, he planned to pursue a scientific career, but his Crimean Tatar origin closed all doors for him in Soviet Crimea. «If this country doesn’t need me, then I don’t need the country either,» he decided then. He has devoted his entire life since then to the struggle for the rights of his people – and continues it to this day.
