One of the most active derneks, a community of Crimean Tatars in Turkey, operates in Bursa. The local dernek opened in 1988. Since then, Crimean Tatars from Bursa have been learning the Crimean Tatar language and organizing folk dance and song lessons among the diaspora. Every year, students from Crimea study with the support of Bursa’s dernek, and in Crimea itself, dernek representatives help build mosques and organize Eid al-Adha offerings.
