The tragic fate of the Yeni Jami shrine

The abandoned 19th century Yeni Jami mosque in Aqmescit is filled with garbage. The shrine was closed in 1929, and in Soviet times it was used as an oil mill. After the return of the Crimean Tatars, the building was transferred to the SBMK, but on the eve of the transfer there was a fire which resulted in the collapse of the roof. Today the shrine is in a deplorable condition. This coming weekend, activists from among the youth decided to organize a cleaning of the mosque and are encouraged to participate.
