On October 1, 1992, a bloody pogrom occurred in the village of Krasny Ray. It was an act of unprecedented cruelty: security forces beat all participants of the Crimean Tatar picket, including the elderly and those who had lost consciousness. At the same time, temporary shelters built by the Crimean Tatars were being demolished. About 30 people were detained. They were released almost a week later, following mass protest actions in the Crimean capital.
