On October 8, 1966, Crimean Tatars held a wave of rallies across various cities in Uzbekistan to mark the 45th anniversary of the founding of the Crimean ASSR. The largest demonstrations took place in Bekabad and Andijan. Although the protests were peaceful, they were violently dispersed by authorities. Many participants were injured, detained, and some received lengthy prison sentences.
