History of the Bakhchisaray Museum of Crimean Tatars

The year 1917 was truly revolutionary for the Crimean Tatar people as well, full of landmark historical events. Among them was the solemn opening on November 3 of the National Crimean Tatar Museum within the Khan’s Palace, aiming not only to popularize culture but also to preserve the palace itself. The initiative to create the museum belonged to the artist, local historian, and ethnographer Usein Bodaninsky, who became the institution’s first director.
