Crimean Tatars Were Deprived of Their Ethnicity for Half a Century

On December 9, 1993, the Resolution of the Supreme Council of Crimea «On the Name of the Ethnicity ‘Crimean Tatars'» was issued. It restored the official name of the people. The ethnicity was to be indicated as such in passports. Before that, for many years, Crimean Tatars were called simply Tatars to sever their connection with Crimea.
