His trial lasted only 20 minutes. It was preceded by months of brutal torture and interrogation. Accusing the outstanding scholar of counter-revolutionary activity and nationalism, the Soviet authorities executed Bekir Choban-zade. On October 13, 1937, he was shot in Baku.
