Numerous rallies were held in Moscow in Summer of 1987. Crimean Tatars demanded their rights to be restored. A special committee headed by Andrey Gromyko was established to settle Crimean Tatar issues. Nevertheless, Russian state TASS agency made a defamatory report about Crimean Tatars, justifying the 1944 deportation.
