A midnight knock on the door, mere minutes to gather belongings, filthy, cold train cars – the history of the Meskhetian Turks’ expulsion in November 1944 bears a stark resemblance to the tragedy of the Crimean Tatar people. Like our people, they were driven from their homeland on fabricated charges, forced to live under a special commandant regime, denied any right of return.
