The first city founded by the Crimean Tatars in the Caucasus is considered to be Tatartup. Its remains are located in modern North Ossetia. Officially, the city was called Upper Dzhulat, but due to the Crimean Tatar population it became known as Tatartup. During the time of Khan Uzbek, there was a Crimean Tatar garrison here, and mosques were being built.
