Santyr – Ancient Musical Instrument

In Iran it is santur, in Moldova it is cimbalom, in Tajikistan it is chang, and for the Crimean Tatars it is santyr. An ancient musical instrument, the sound of which is produced by striking the strings with two wooden mallets, the strings being stretched horizontally over a soundboard. It is one of the most ancient Crimean Tatar musical instruments. Although it was largely lost through history, the tradition of playing the santyr is now being revived.
