The Influence of Alisher Navoi in Crimea

His verses were admired by Sultan Suleiman, and even a crater on Mercury is named after him. The Turkic world is marking the 585th anniversary of the birth of Alisher Navoi – an outstanding poet, philosopher, and statesman. His work also had a huge influence on Crimea. Navoi’s most important work, «Muhokamat ul-Lughatayn» («The Dispute of Two Languages»), was first translated into the Crimean Tatar language by Ismail Gasprinsky. In 1926, Bekir Choban-zade took the initiative to mark the 500th anniversary of Alisher Navoi and create a center for researching his activities.
