The Amazing World of Arkhip Kuindzhi

The outstanding artist Arkhip Kuindzhi knew how to surprise. He would organize an exhibition of one painting, and then disappear from sight for 20 years. The first famous work of the landscape painter, which conquered the artists of St. Petersburg, was the painting «Tatar Huts by Moonlight on the Southern Coast of Crimea», which has not survived. His surname is consonant with the Crimean Tatar «kuyumdzhi» and is translated as «filigree worker», Kuindzhi himself is a Greek-Urum by origin.
