The name of Şihabetdin Märcani is known to many. An outstanding Tatar Muslim theologian, educator, also known as an ethnographer, archaeographer, orientalist and teacher. He is considered the most prominent Tatar historian of his time. Being a respected theologian, Märcani cared about the national identity of the Tatars and put forward progressive ideas.
