Nina Zhaba: Enchanted by Bakhchysarai

Thanks to her works, we visualize early 20th-century Crimean Tatars – their clothing, occupations, and daily life. Today marks 150 years since Nina Zhaba’s birth. The artist lived 18 years in Bakhchysarai, capturing its vibrant architecture and unique locals. Her postcards with Crimean sketches sold thousands, especially treasured by Crimean Tatars who carried them during the 1944 deportation as a reminder of Crimea.
