Necip Hablemitoglu Was One Of The First To Bring Up The Crimean Tatar Problem

Prominent Turkish historian, writer and journalist Necip Hablemitoglu was one of the first to write about the expulsion of the Crimean Tatars during the Cold War, when the topic was hushed up. The series of articles “Yüzbinlerin Sürgünü” (“The Expulsion of Hundreds of Thousands”), published in the 1970s, was a bold attempt to draw world attention to the tragedy of his people. Together with his wife, the scientist and writer Şengül Hablemitoglu, he studied the lives of Ismail and Şefika Gasprinskys, and collected a valuable archive of documents.
