In the winter of 1933 in the Chukchi Sea the steameship «Chelyuskin» became ice-bound and sank. 104 people from the steamship were evacuated to the ice floe and spent 2 months waiting for help in the conditions of polar winter. A Crimean Tatar, a promising scientist-physicist Ibragim Fakidov, was also on board the “Chelyuskin”. Ibragim Gafurovich was a Cand. Sc. Physics and Mathematics, a professor, and in different periods of time was performing important state tasks.
