A Crimean Tatar was twice appointed Minister of Finance of Turkey and ended his life on the gallows. Born in Eskişehir, Hasan Polatkan lived a short but bright life – he was just over 30 when, thanks to a brilliant education, he broke into the highest echelons of power in the country, and 46 when he was executed after the military coup of 1960.
