The name Canike (also mistakenly read as Nenkedjan), daughter of the Horde Khan Tokhtamysh, is shrouded in many legends. In reality, she had to witness a bloody struggle between her father, husband, and brothers throughout her life. After the death of her husband, the beklarbek of the Golden Horde Edige, Canike moved to Crimea and lived here until her death in 1437. She was buried in the Kirk-Yer fortress, where the Canike-Khanym turbe remains.
