Persecution Of Crimean Tatars In Dobruja In The 1940-1950s

The Balkan region of Dobruja, now divided between Romania and Bulgaria, for several centuries attracted those who left Crimea in search of a better life. There were mosques, Muslim schools, villages inhabited exclusively by descendants of Crimean Tatars. But in the mid-20th century, the policy of the Romanian authorities towards Crimean Tatars changed – now they began to be persecuted for political reasons.
