The institution of the karachi-beys appeared in the early 13th century in the Mongol Empire, and later in all the states of the Chinggisids, including the Crimean Khanate.
Karachi-beys were part of the khan’s divan and dealt with important state matters.
Their power was so great that they could even depose a khan.
