Many scholars from Crimea who became famous in the Muslim world were natives of Kefe (Feodosia), they took the name Kefevi. One of them was a prominent literary figure, the poet Usein Kefevi. In Istanbul, he taught in the most advanced madrasahs. He was appointed cadiy of Mecca and Jerusalem.
