The First Recording of Adhan In History

Want to hear the world’s first audio recording of adhan? Sound recording came to the Islamic world at the very end of the 19th century. In 1885, a brochure titled «The Phonograph, One of the Most Remarkable Inventions of Mankind» was published by Ahmad Rasim, an employee of the Turkish Imperial Telegraph Company, but the question of whether sound recording was permissible from a religious point of view remained open for a long time, and phonographs did not become widespread. The oldest surviving audio recordings made in Arab countries and Indonesia are now considered to be wax cylinders recorded in 1906-1909 in Arabia and Indonesia for the Dutch scientist Christian Snook-Hurgronje. Adhan can also be heard on one of them.
