Salt in Crimea was mined in the lakes of the Perekop steppe, the Kerch Peninsula and Kezlev. The Crimean Tatars and Karaites were engaged in salt mining. Crimean salt had an excellent taste and was exported beyond Perekop, to Turkey and other countries of the Black Sea region.
