Plague In Crimea

The Black Death – that is the name of the most terrible plague pandemic in human history. Its peak was in 1346–1353. It was around that time that the plague reached Crimea and, according to contemporary accounts, claimed up to 1000 people per day. Doctors’ lack of understanding of the nature of the disease and active contacts with the outside world turned the plague into a real disaster on the peninsula. At the same time, it was precisely the outbreaks of plague epidemics throughout the 14th-15th centuries that contributed to the preservation of Crimea’s position in international trade and led to the formation of a unique political system.
