These days, Muslims are celebrating Eid al-Adha. For the residents of Bakhchisarai, 105 years ago this holiday was overshadowed by a tragic event. In 1919, Muslims of the city were invited to Eid al-Adha in the courtyard of Khansaray. But there was trap awaiting for them– the White Guards lined up the assembled men and beat them with ramrods. The people’s reaction to this event was the song “Shompol” (“Ramrod”), which is still known today.
