«Here there may be lions» – this is how unknown lands were labeled on maps in the Middle Ages. But if we go even further back in time, lions could actually be found in Crimea. Thousands of years ago, Crimean nature was completely different – the peninsula was inhabited not only by lions but also by tigers, rhinoceroses, and even the land-dwelling ancestors of modern whales.
