Crimean Tatars Grew Giant Cucumbers

A unique variety of cucumbers was grown in Crimea, the fruits of which reached about a meter in length. Many travelers who visited Crimea in the late 18th and early 19th centuries mentioned this amazing plant. The giant cucumbers were most often found in the villages of Uskut (Privetnoye) and Duvankoy (Verkhnesadovoye), and were notable not only for their enormous size but also for their crunchy properties.
