Crimean Tatar Women Used to be Mullahs

In the times of Crimean Khanate either men or women were educated. “Some women cannot write, but all of them can read. Otherwise they are considered bad Muslims”, — German traveler Iogan Kol wrote in 1841. That is possible reason why there were mullahs (a person educated in Islamic theology) and muderrises (teachers) among Crimean Tatar women.
