Coffeehouses of the Crimean Khanate were for men only

Coffee shops are on every corner today. So it was in the Crimean Khanate. The first establishments appeared in the 16th century and immediately became an important part of Crimean Tatar culture. Coffeehouses were visited only by men. Here they drank coffee, discussed news, made deals, and played chess. Moreover, coffeehouses had no fixed price for coffee and meals – visitors left as much money as they saw fit.
