Medieval dictionary Codex Cumanicus, compiled in the late 1200s is considered the oldest landmark of the Crimean Tatar language. Its only copy is kept in the library of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice. Many words specified in the Codex Cumanicus are used in the same form in the modern Crimean Tatar language.
