The Fountain of Tears «ran out of tears», and some «illiterate muff» painted over the luxurious Demir-kapa portal. The French photographer and ethnographer Joseph de Bay, who visited Bakhchisarai in 1905, criticized the restoration of the Khan’s Palace.
