A native of the village of Degirmenkoy (Zaprudnoye), Shadiye Adzhiveli, lost her homeland at the age of 9. Her bright and happy childhood was interrupted first by the war, then by deportation. The youth of Shadiye-khanym passed in the struggle for survival in the harsh years in a foreign land. Thanks to the care and love of her mother, who worked without sparing herself to feed her family, Shadiye Adzhiveli survived and fulfilled her dream of returning to Crimea.
