Crimean Tatar Musa Mamut has become a symbol of the struggle of the nation for the right to live in their homeland. On June 23, 1978, he committed a self-immolation act as a mark of protest against the discriminatory policy of Soviet Unioun authorities. The writer and human rights activist, Grigory Alexandrov, dedicated the poem «The torch over Crimea» to the gest of Musa Mamut.
