This year many Crimean Tatar tent camps will turn 30. In 1990, Crimean Tatars, without receiving a response to their appeals to the authorities, decided to arbitrarily occupy vacant plots and demand their allocation. One of these pickets arose in the area of Marshal Zhukov Street in Aqmescit. Now it is a settlement Merkhamet, where more than 2 thousand people live, mainly Crimean Tatars. Merkhamet planned to celebrate its 30th birthday with a big holiday on an unfinished playground. But just before the day of the celebration, Merkhamet’s activists received an official warning and were banned from holding the event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
