100-year-old Fatma Vaapova: «I was 8 Months Pregnant During the Deportation»

In May 1944, 20-year-old Fatma Vaapova was 8 months pregnant. This did not stop the authorities from deporting her from Crimea, like the entire Crimean Tatar people. Instead of happy motherhood in her homeland, there was a devastating feeling of injustice and a struggle for survival. Fatma Vaapova carried this pain in her heart for many years. But the strength of her spirit did not let her give up and helped her survive in a foreign land. Fatma Vaapova returned to her homeland almost half a century later. At 100 years old, she is surrounded by the love and care of 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
