TRASH MERASIMI — AN OLD CRIMEAN TATAR WEDDING RITE

In the old days, on the eve of the Crimean Tatar wedding in the groom’s house, it was customary to conduct the «Trash merasimy» ceremony. A specially invited hairdresser solemnly shaved off the beard of the future room. This was considered a symbol of farewell to bachelorhood and the acquisition of the status of a married man. After the procedure, the parents had to bless their son for the marriage. Recently, this ancient rite began to revive in Crimea.
