Ensemble «Sato»: Central Asian Ethno-Jazz with Crimean Tatar Flair

In the 1970s-80s, Fergana was known as the «capital of Central Asian jazz.» While many influential groups emerged from its jazz scene, the most powerful and distinctive was the «Sato» ensemble led by Leonid Atabekov. Three members were Crimean Tatars: guitarist Enver Izmailov, flutist/saxophonist Narket Ramazanov, and keyboardist Riza Bekirov. Their first album Efsane remains a jazz masterpiece infused with Crimean Tatar spirit.
