The Crimean War In English Language Rock Music

We are used to seeing Crimea as a sunny, familiar and happy place. But in the culture of English-speaking countries, our peninsula is remembered as a cold, gloomy and inhospitable place. And the reason for this is the Crimean War, the first war in human history, which was widely covered in the media and remembered by the British for the tragic attack of the British cavalry on October 25, 1854. Written 6 weeks after this, Alfred Tennyson’s poem “The Charge of the Light Brigade” is still studied in British schools. Since then, poems, books have been written about these events, films have been made, and since the mid-20th century, they were reinterpreted in a new way in rock music. We will talk about some of these works in our video.
